Class B License

The car. Your freedom.

Manual, automatic or B197 — learn to drive the way that suits you. Possible from age 17 with BF17.

Manual, automatic, or both?

Three paths to your Class B car license — you choose what you train on.

Recommended
B197 (recommended)

You train on an automatic and add at least 10 lessons on a manual car plus a 15-minute test drive — and get a license with no automatic-only restriction (code 78).

Classic
Manual

The classic training on a manual car. Afterwards you can drive any car, manual or automatic.

Simple
Automatic

Pure automatic training with no manual-competence proof — but with the automatic-only restriction (code 78).

Licence facts

Frequently Asked Questions

B197 or automatic — what’s the difference?

With B197 you train on an automatic but also prove manual competence, then get a license without the automatic-only restriction. Pure automatic training is shorter but restricts you to automatic vehicles (code 78).

What is BF17?

With BF17 you get your license at 17 and drive only with a person registered on your application until your 18th birthday. After that you drive alone with no further test.

How long does the training take?

Usually 2–4 months, depending on prior knowledge and practice frequency. With our intensive course you can be ready for the exam in just 14 days.

What does a Class B license cost?

The base fee is €299.00 — plus driving lessons, special drives and exam fees. All prices are listed transparently above.

What are the 12 special drives?

5 rural drives, 4 motorway drives and 3 night drives — mandatory drives every learner driver in Germany must complete, regardless of prior experience.

I already have a foreign license — can I convert it?

Depending on your country of origin, you may convert directly or need a theory and/or practical exam. Talk to us — we’ll check your case for free.
